Dear Practice Friends,
Our two apprentices, Matt Parente and Aly Payne have made great progress during the first phase of their apprenticeship and last Friday passed the first of two in-house exams on their way toward their full STOTT PILATES certification. This first exam tests their abilities to perform the essential and intermediate repertoire as well as a ton of memorization of anatomy, exercises, modifications, target muscles, and breath patterns. They now formally enter join the Practice staff as paid instructors, charging half-price to clients for private sessions and group classes. The next phase of their apprenticeship will have them focused generally on improving their teaching skills, and specifically on programming effectively for clients in both private and group settings.
Both Aly and Matt will begin to fill in for other instructors periodically so you may have a chance to work with them, and during this time your sessions will be at the 50% discounted rate. Working with apprentices is also a great way to pick up an extra session during the week for yourself at a really good value. I’m thrilled to announce that Joan Wire, a long time member of the Practice Community, and has recently completed her 200-hour teacher training in Baron Baptiste Power Yoga through Ignite Yoga in Dayton and will begin to offer a Power Flow Yoga class on Tuesday evenings at 7p (see below for a class description).
Joan is a registered dietitian who has spent the last 20 years focusing on health and well-being. She has worked in Cardiology and the Wellness Center at Miami Valley Hospital in addition to providing private counseling and weight management classes. Yoga and meditation have been an important part of her own wellness routine. Joan is a certified Chopra Center meditation instructor and is excited to share her both Primordial Sound Meditation and power yoga with the Dayton area. Joan is a full time mom of three very active teenagers. She enjoys spending her free time with her husband traveling and spending time outdoors doing anything from hiking and biking to kayaking. If you are interested in trying out Joan’s Power Flow class this month, your first session will be free.
While I am proud of the studio space we’ve created and the fact that we keep it nice for you, it really is the amazing people that come together in the space that makes Practice special, and to that end I want to say we are really fortunate to have Joan, Teresa, Matt and Aly on board with us because they are also really amazing. They have passion, talent, rich life experience and love making a difference with the people in their community. I am excited for you to work with them, and I hope you will join me in welcoming them in their new roles with Practice Fitness.
