Practice News & Calendar – December (2013)

Dear Practice Friends,

Younger next yearOne of our newer members of the Practice community, Janice Sudkamp, was kind enough to recommend an excellent book to me,Younger Next Year for Women: Live Strong, Fit and Sexy – Until You’re 80 and Beyond, by Chris Crowley and Henry S. Lodge, M.D. The book has been out since 2007, and I downloaded the audiobook and enjoyed it as I drove back and forth to my sister’s house in Indiana for the Thanksgiving holiday.

There are actually two versions of the book, one for women and one for men. Much of the material in both books is similar because the authors present aging and fitness through the lens of evolutionary biology, and over 90% of the systems that we share that affect our metabolism and our aging is identical. Still each book discusses sex differences, such as the reduction of testosterone in men as they age, and the changes that occur with menopause in women.

What comes through loud and clear to me as central to the text are are the ideas that: 1) much of our aging is related to lifestyle choices; 2) the choices we make every day set us up for either decay or growth; and 3) staying in a growth mode requires exercise, good nutrition, and commitment.

As Janice pointed out to me in our discussion, one of the reasons that she enjoys coming to Practice is the way in which our values and our approach to fitness mirrors the truths reveals inYounger Next Year. I agree. Our mission is help you to realize your potential, which in terms of fitness translates to looking great, feeling great, and moving well, not just now, but for the rest of your life! As we move into the new year, our goal is to help you think about the future, both near and far, in order to find a “best fit” that will have you looking, feeling and moving, “younger next year.”

Class Changes

The studio will be closed 12/25 and January 1 for Christmas and New Year holidays.

Hatha Yoga is cancelled for Tuesday, December 24 and Tuesday, December 31

The 12p Group Reformer class on Thursdays will move to 1130a for the winter.

 

New Pricing for 2014

Effective January 1st, we’ll be introducing some price changes for 2014:

  • Regular Instructor rates for Privates, Duets and Trios will increase slightly, while still remaining one of the most competitively priced studios in Dayton, Ohio
  • Rates for Group Reformer & Equipment classes as well as Pilates Matwork and Yoga classes will remain the same for 2014.
  • 30 Minute class rates for Jumpboard, TRX, and the new CORE Athletic Conditioning class (starting in January) will decrease for 2014, making them a great value!
  • Senior Instructor Rates will remain the same for 2014.

Clients with packages for privates, duets and trios will be honored at 2013 rates until they are used up. Up to December 31st, clients can purchase a package of (up to 16 sessions) privates, duets or trios at 2013 prices using their house account or other form of payment.
